When a door opens up for a good opportunity, walk in. Don't hesitate. Even if it's not perfect, just go for it. Why? Because that door will lead to another opportunity if you do it right. You have to start somewhere and your dreams won't be accomplished by sitting around and waiting for the door to open. If you see a door open that you can learn from (which is most doors) take that opportunity.
I like the way Isaac Morehouse puts it: don't do stuff you hate. He even wrote an entire book around this concept. If it's not dreadful situation, why not?
This concept can become even stronger when you consider combining two opportunities.
For example, think about surfers. If you're a surfer, you probably have a good sense of when the waves are coming. I'm not a surfer (yet) and I don't understand how some people get a “feel” for the ocean.
However, that's a lot like life. When you pay close attention, you can feel when a door is about to open up. (Or, when a wave is about to form.) Why would you sit around and wait for the “perfect” wave when you could take advantage of the one coming your way? Yeah, exactly, it doesn't make much sense.
Sometimes, two waves will combine into one bigger wave. Now, what does that look like in our lives?
That’s where we go back to my point on combining opportunities.
Let's say you got a new job. It's not a dream job, but you don't hate it either. Let's also say that you're really good at art. Those are your two waves. Combine them. Watch it grow and see how that really impacts your situation. Most likely, it will probably even impact the people watching.
If you have a door opening up but you're still not sure, I say go for it. Unless it's worse than your current position, don't hesitate and don't be afraid to get creative with it. Own it. Combine. Create. It's going to be a lot more awesome if you make it that way.
