I did a post a few weeks ago about my vision board - it's the board that has all of my goals in life (big and small), it's my ideas and projects that I want to tackle and I'm constantly adding to it. If you read that post you know one of my goals is to become a part-time social media manager, and to be honest I wasn't exactly sure how that was going to happen. It seems that nearly everyone wants the same job as well.
Last week, I offered to help out my church (CityLight Baptist LA) as an intern doing things around the place, sending out emails, planning events, etc. To my surprise, I was asked to help manage social media. Apparently they had been looking for someone to help with posting online and were unable to find anybody. Yesterday was my first day, and today I did my first post! It's not paid, in fact I don't want it to be, I'm just excited to get some experience in the field. I want to learn as much as possible and gain as much knowledge as I can so I decided to set some goals and share them with you.
Learn Tricks & Tools
There's a couple of apps that allow you to schedule your posts and since I'm completely new to this, I have some exploring to do with these but after a few days I think I'll get the hang of it. As for right now, my main worry is photos. I don't have very many for this week which is fine because it's forcing me to get creative. Starting next week I'll be photographing events and Sunday services, once I get comfortable with that I want to spend more time researching apps and learning tips about marketing with social media. (E.g. best times to post, how to keep it interesting and authentic, which hashtags to use, etc.)
Gain At Least 100 Followers
We currently have 453 followers on Instagram and 689 on Facebook. I'm not sure how long I will be managing (since I'll be moving soon) but my guess is at least three months. My goal is to gain 100 more followers for both Instagram and Facebook each before the end of July.
Stick To A Schedule
Mondays I'm informed of all upcoming events so I'm planning to schedule my posts on Monday nights. The goal is to post twice per day on Facebook and once per day on Instagram and be able to maintain this schedule throughout the remainder of the internship.
I have a lot of projects that I'm working on, some are still ideas, some are beginning to become a reality. These are exciting times for me, I'm finally getting to see some of my ideas and goals come to life and I can't wait to see where they take me.
