People make mistakes, constantly, out of habit, and often without knowing. It may be illogical for someone like me to claim one mistake to be worse than another, and being human there’s no denying I’ve made this mistake before. But I’ve noticed a pattern of thought that flows within us and I think it’s a result of societal pressure. The need to be noticed comes from within, it’s natural, but society has a habit of taking “natural” and making it “normal”. They’re not always the same thing. One of the biggest mistakes people make is viewing their unique attributes as weaknesses, rather than advantages. No one wants to stand out in the negative sense, few are willing to sacrifice an image for being true to themselves. That is one of the saddest truths about what society can do to us. (In case you can’t tell, I have some problems with society.) But one thing leads to another and once we suppress our given uniqueness, we turn to other things to make us “stand out”. What’s ironic is that usually these are things that everyone else is doing.
Don’t fall into that trap. Having a cool tattoo doesn’t make you a special person. Your taste in music doesn’t make you special either. I’m not hating on tattoos and music, but the truth is that you don’t need either of those to be special. You already are. The moment you start to wonder whether or not you appear one way to everyone else should be a sign that you're falling away from who you're supposed to be. It’s sad that I have to be explaining this, but it’s come to my attention the past few days that not everyone fully understands it.
