Sometimes you have to be obnoxious.
No, trust me. Sometimes, you've got to be obnoxious. If you want something, you have to go and get it because nine times out of ten, it's not coming to you. If you want answers, go get your damn answers. If you want a job, go get yourself a damn job. If you want a community, a comrade, an award, a raise, some freaking respect, love, or affection - you guessed it, be obnoxious about it.
Truth is, if you're absolutely desperate, you'll be obnoxious about it anyway. You won't even have to think because you'll be too busy dreaming about it, talking about it, and doing whatever you can to try and get it. But, sometimes we still can't get past the fears that lie between us and our desires - even if we still want them pretty bad. If you need it, then yes, being obnoxious is a given. But if you want it, well, you're just going to have to force yourself to be obnoxious.
“If you’re frustrated because you’re not getting what you want, stop for a second: Have you actually flat-out asked for it? If you haven’t, stop complaining. You can’t expect the world to read your mind. You have to put it out there, and sometimes putting it out there is as simple as just saying, “Hey, can I have that?” - Sophia Amoruso
I challenge you to think of something you want - something few people know about, but you still think about - and get comfortable with the idea of sharing it with other people. Ask for it, if it requires asking. Talk about it, if it requires talking. Do it, if it requires doing. But whatever it takes, make sure people know. Be obnoxious in the most polite, honorable, and admirable way possible. See what you can get away with without hurting yourself or someone else. That's sure to finally get you somewhere.
